A Late Sunday Night Message
This week's regularly scheduled programming is a bit behind schedule.
Hi from Sunday night friends -
First, I apologize for not having an article this week. A lot of things lined up to make this happen, but I suppose after 7 months of publishing, I was bound to miss a deadline sooner or later.
I was traveling for work. I got to see a lot of colleagues who I hadn't seen since pre-COVID, and meet a lot of people who I've worked with since COVID, but never actually met in person. Most of the time, working over Zoom and Slack is perfectly fine. But those few days together in person were very valuable.
Knowing I was going to be traveling, I had prepped an article this week about Substack's content moderation policy, structured around the controversy about Nazi and other hateful content on Substack and how Substack is eager to take their money. Then, Substack deplatformed some of the Nazis, responding to pressure from high-profile publications like Platformer, but in the most passive-aggressive way possible. Then Platformer said they were staying, then said they were leaving. Apparently, they are sticking with that answer.
The problem is that the article I had written for this week no longer applies. While I've started rewriting, unfortunately, I didn't finish in time to get my article out this week. Because Byte-Sized Ethics is hosted on Substack, and Substack's response leaves a lot to be desired, I want to make sure I give my article on this topic the time it deserves.
You can expect a very nuanced article later this week where I really dig into the situation, as I try to suss out what this means for me and Byte-Sized Ethics.
Hope everyone has had a great week, and a great weekend.
